<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have a weird obsession about what I call 'neglected' spaces. Those places in our homes that have a purpose, but we also don't give them much thought. Don't ask me why, but I think a quick peek under a sink cabinet or a closet says much more about a person or the way a household functions than many of us would want to admit. Do you shove items so they are out of sight? Are they organized? Are the a little of both? Most of my cupboards and closets are pretty organized but a few, I have actually decorated. I love opening the door and seeing an unexpected surprise. Many years ago, many people fell in love with the home pantry featured at <a href="http://www.thehouseofsmiths.com/2010/07/pantry-remix.html">www.thehouseofsmiths.com</a>. I was no exception. The biggest problem is that I am a renter and my pantry isn't very big. And while I have a cool landlord that has let me paint in the bedrooms, if I ever move, I don't want to have to repaint a pantry. So....I took some ideas from the House of Smiths but made it a little more renter friendly by using scrapbook paper and spray adhesive. Because the walls are painted, if needed I can pull the paper down, give the walls a good scrub and you'd never know this had been done. I scoured a bunch of thrift stores for the wire baskets, and Hobby Lobby for the others. I found my glass containers at Walmart, Hobby Lobby and Ikea. I actually put this together quite a few years ago and my kids are great about putting things back where they belong and it generally stays looking exactly the way it is in the pictures. I have had a couple people ask me how the paper holds up since I didn't coat it with anything and I honestly haven't had any issues. Mostly because there isn't every anything wet. Occasionally I do notice the paper coming loose and a quick spray of the adhesive fixes it right back up. Honestly, the $50ish I spent on this decorating really has kept me happy and my organized!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The very top shelf holds paper items and food products we don't use often.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Br3hKdEgkm0/VQ-FqiGB2zI/AAAAAAAAGno/ifGuONX7SUE/s1600/20150322_152405.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Br3hKdEgkm0/VQ-FqiGB2zI/AAAAAAAAGno/ifGuONX7SUE/s1600/20150322_152405.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The second shelf holds most of my dry goods such as pasta, rice and beans. We just might eat more ramen noodles than I care to admit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6uZbSluFWbc/VQ8qQqwAF_I/AAAAAAAAGlg/FlH67xRxzQs/s1600/20150322_143656.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6uZbSluFWbc/VQ8qQqwAF_I/AAAAAAAAGlg/FlH67xRxzQs/s1600/20150322_143656.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The third shelf is where my baking supplies are, and probably my favorite shelf. It looks like I need to refill my sugar container.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-13fB88tv9MU/VQ8qWT7w4pI/AAAAAAAAGlo/YKs8Tf7FoOY/s1600/20150322_143711.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-13fB88tv9MU/VQ8qWT7w4pI/AAAAAAAAGlo/YKs8Tf7FoOY/s1600/20150322_143711.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The fourth is where the snack foods, cereal and non-refrigerated condiments are held.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AXRl1QQjhho/VQ8qW20eS2I/AAAAAAAAGls/4X-B4GcgzZY/s1600/20150322_143759.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AXRl1QQjhho/VQ8qW20eS2I/AAAAAAAAGls/4X-B4GcgzZY/s1600/20150322_143759.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And the floor, well, that's nothing special and holds canned goods and a plastic container of cat food and some larger bulk items. </div>

I really haven't done much in way of crafting since my last post in December. I've done a few things around the house in the decorating department and eventually I would love to do a house tour. For now, I'll just post some monthly or seasonal porch decoration pictures. I don't know if anyone else has a love/hate relationship with St. Patrick's Day, but I sure do. First of all, I'm not of Irish descent. So the fact I 'celebrate' the holiday at all is kind of silly. Secondly, I actually work with a lady from Ireland (it takes some getting used to her talking to get past her thick accent) and she find the American St. Patrick's Day customs very strange. That said, I remember the excitement I had as a child hoping to find that elusive pot of gold. As I've gotten older, I've decided to embrace the sentiments of 'Irish Blessings' as well as, for me, it is a symbol of the change from winter to spring.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anywhooooo......how about some pictures? I live in a townhouse and have a long entrance to my front door. I like to keep some cheap pillows that I switch out the fabric and don't care if they get wet or dirty. I don't sew them at all, just tie a knot on the square one and tuck under the ends on the round one. It really is quite simple.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fdtoqJM3vQA/VPTWmkgWTaI/AAAAAAAAGZs/PWY-UHJa9iw/s1600/098.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fdtoqJM3vQA/VPTWmkgWTaI/AAAAAAAAGZs/PWY-UHJa9iw/s1600/098.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mt0-qohDqIY/VPTWmvtlGvI/AAAAAAAAGZw/5boPcqzzOnU/s1600/099.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mt0-qohDqIY/VPTWmvtlGvI/AAAAAAAAGZw/5boPcqzzOnU/s1600/099.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The ladder I have was quite the investment but over the years I've purchased one or two of the kits and now I am definitely getting my money's worth.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZtALhIZmtvc/VPTWdtmnJbI/AAAAAAAAGZM/4pZu2ztVaBs/s1600/102.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZtALhIZmtvc/VPTWdtmnJbI/AAAAAAAAGZM/4pZu2ztVaBs/s1600/102.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The biggest change in this year's porch is the new wreath I put on the door and cute door mat (from Wal-Mart!!! I was quite surprised, lol). It is so hard to find cute decorations that aren't bright green, tinsely looking things so finally I decided to make my own. The floral options I used were mostly from Wal-Mart, so definitely not the best quality, but for something that is on my front door in March where it rains (like today) or snows, I don't want to spend a fortune on something. Enjoy!</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
P.S. I have no idea if they saying on the 'chalkboard' sign is actually an Irish Blessing. However, if it is, I used an example off the internet and only AFTER I had finished making it did I see other examples that had different wording. I don't know which is correct. Unfortunately, I liked the other alternative better which read: Laugh as much as you breathe and love as long as you live (mine says, .....and love as much as you live). I might have to remake that little sign.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But maybe later. I'm all crafted out for now. ha ha</div>

Hello Internet Land! Melissa here. Isn't it crazy how life is so insanely busy? I'm still a single momma and crafting has taken a back burner. I had no idea that as children grew from toddlers to teenagers that life became even more crazy! But, every once in a while I still am able to get some stuff done and will try to post a little more frequently. Anyway, this year I gave these as gifts to my neighbors and coworkers. At first I was using flashlights, but then I couldn't find anymore (of the *ahem* less expensive option I was going for) so I was lucky to stumble upon 2 packs of these light bulbs! Problem solved. My kids thought I was weird for giving out light bulbs but if that's the only thing that makes me bizarre in their eyes I'll take it!</div>

Hey there. Just a quick post to document something I made that is getting a lot of comments on Facebook. For my LDS ward I was asked to come up with a project for a Super Saturday craft project. I was going to go with something else but was asked to attempt to make some coat hooks that have a child's picture hanging over it so they know which is assigned to them. I really didn't want to make them because I honestly have no where to hang them in my house but boy did people like what I came up with. I have searched and searched to find the source of the original image but was not able to (it was pinned to someone elses Pinterest so I don't have that image). These are super cute but a little labor intensive. If anyone happens to read this and is interested in ordering them, leave me your email address in the comments and I can send you more detailed info. Thanks!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Howdy, Howdy!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You know how sometimes you are blog hopping/stalking/spending-all-your-free-time-at-night-looking-at-crafts-on-the-internet-and-you-wonder-why-your-house-didn't-magically-clean-itself and you stumble across something that you want to make right away? Well, that happened with me the other day while on Pinterest. It is such a simple idea and it was super easy, although a little time consuming. But still, this is easily a make-while-you're-watching-a-movie kind of project. Now, because I wasn't in blog mode while working on this I didn't take step by step pictures. So, I'll give credit where I saw it and link back to <a href="http://www.becomingmartha.com/2012/09/a-fall-or-autumn-wreath.html" target="_blank">Becoming Martha's</a> website so you can see her tutorial. I would like to add a little more information though.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. She doesn't ever say how much burlap she actually used. I think I added more 'bubble's to my wreath than she did and ended up using exactly 2 yards.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. Don't take the time to perfectly measure your burlap. It will NOT be worth it in the end since the burlap frays, and the bubbles are not supposed to be perfect or the wreath would get boring. I really just eyeballed my cuts and some of them were more like 4 x 6 and it doesn't matter at all.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. I used an 18 inch straw wreath from Hobby Lobby. I liked the $4.99 price tag much better than the $11.99 price for the styrofoam she used. I didn't even bother taking the plastic wrapping off so the straw would not get all over.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. I obviously used a different letter and paper than she did. This is why I love crafting.....one idea leads to so many different versions!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I took this pictures at night so they're not the best but you can get the idea of what it looks like on my door. I am <i><b>thinking</b></i> about maybe doing this for a craft club in the next week or two. If you live in the Utah County area and would be interested in attending leave me a comment. <b>The cost will be $25.00.</b> If I can get a few people signed up at this late notice I will get a date planned!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
P.S. Let's just ignore the 9 month gap since my last post, shall we? Let's just say, it's not for a lack of projects. But mostly, I have been working on some personal issues and since I don't blog to make money, it kind of took a back seat.

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-buFeNIJD4wc/Tt7XivA8FuI/AAAAAAAAC80/HeR-u_vv-WQ/s1600/Fall+and+Winter+2011+034.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" mda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-buFeNIJD4wc/Tt7XivA8FuI/AAAAAAAAC80/HeR-u_vv-WQ/s400/Fall+and+Winter+2011+034.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Don't ask me why I decided to do a post about pancakes in the middle of winter...well I guess there kind of is a story behind these. A few months ago I was asked to provide pancake batter for a breakfast being held at my work. I wasn't quite sure how much would be needed to feed around 80 people so I made A LOT...and ended up bringing half of the dry mix back home with me. That means the kiddos and I have been eating pancakes about two or three times a month to use up all the mix. Good thing these pancakes are so super yummy, a breeze to whip up, and so fluffy...I swear they get close to an inch thick when cooking. So, here's the really, really easy recipe for pancakes you'll get lots of compliments on...like I did!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Mix together:</div><div style="text-align: center;">4 cups all-purpose flour</div><div style="text-align: center;">2 cups whole wheat flour</div><div style="text-align: center;">2/3 cups sugar</div><div style="text-align: center;">2 tablespoons baking powder</div><div style="text-align: center;">1 tablespoon baking soda</div><div style="text-align: center;">Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months.</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UGXawmwQBVM/Tt7X22E4pNI/AAAAAAAAC88/N3fd-_7jvEw/s1600/Fall+and+Winter+2011+028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" mda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UGXawmwQBVM/Tt7X22E4pNI/AAAAAAAAC88/N3fd-_7jvEw/s400/Fall+and+Winter+2011+028.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">When ready to prepare pancakes, mix together:</div><div style="text-align: center;">1 egg</div><div style="text-align: center;">3/4 cup milk</div><div style="text-align: center;">for every 1 cup of dry pancake mix.</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_lNNknQxW14/Tt7YGLL1ZTI/AAAAAAAAC9E/p9Lgq1pi5ho/s1600/Fall+and+Winter+2011+029.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" mda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_lNNknQxW14/Tt7YGLL1ZTI/AAAAAAAAC9E/p9Lgq1pi5ho/s400/Fall+and+Winter+2011+029.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Pshuc-BwXuw/Tt7YjG1xqwI/AAAAAAAAC9M/w7bzwy_J20o/s1600/Fall+and+Winter+2011+030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" mda="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Pshuc-BwXuw/Tt7YjG1xqwI/AAAAAAAAC9M/w7bzwy_J20o/s400/Fall+and+Winter+2011+030.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I LOVE handmade, sewn goods. I think they can range from cutsie to stunning. In my opinion, sewing is one of those things that you can't really fake your way through. Either you know what you're doing or you don't. I have enough skill to get myself in trouble. I think I can do something and about halfway through when my back is killing me, my eyes are burning and I really want to give up but I'm bound and determined to no longer start a project and not finish it so I keep on plugging on. That happened to me last Saturday when I suddenly decided to make a quilt for my parents for Christmas. You see, I had been wasting my time on the lovely Pinterest when I saw a pin for a <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/635639097/" target="_blank">quilt that could be made in one night</a> and it was big and super cute. Hmmmm.....I was pretty disappointed when I watched the video and realized that the tutorial was only for a 36 by 36 inch quilt. But, I really loved the look of it and it did seem pretty easy. I thought, "Yep! I can do that tonight and get caught up on some of my favorite shows." So, down to the fabric store I went (in pj's and no make-up, of course!). I found cute fabrics that will work with my parents home and started sewing around 8:30 p.m. Now, I want to state that I don't know who made the claim that you could make a quilt in one night. I don't remember hearing that on the video. If the 36 by 36 inches is the size you want, you absolutely could make this in one night. I wanted more of a lap quilt/throw type thing. I only made it to about 2:30 a.m. before I finally gave up and realized this was going to be a two night project. lol. Anyway, I think it turned out super, super cute. I followed everything the girls said in this video except I had to figure out the measurements for a larger quilt. Also, my store didn't have the greatest selection of flannel so I used it for the top and bottom but just regular cotton prints for the squares. That said, now that I mastered the first attempt, I actually think I will make this again. I really to love the look and feel of it! Even better, I feel a <em>teeeeensy</em> bit more confident, maybe next time it will only take me one and a half nights...ha ha! Anyway, check out these gals in their <a href="http://www.thediydish.com/2011/11/how-to-make-an-easy-quilt/" target="_blank">super cute video</a> and then take a look at my pictures and hopefully you can make your own!</div><div align="center"><br />
</div><div align="center">Step One...</div><div align="center">Gather your supplies:</div><div align="center"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9ZfSTVXkFzY/Tt2dzRB0EJI/AAAAAAAAC68/zT9-9EvLqxo/s1600/Fall+and+Winter+2011+018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9ZfSTVXkFzY/Tt2dzRB0EJI/AAAAAAAAC68/zT9-9EvLqxo/s400/Fall+and+Winter+2011+018.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step Two...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Wash and press your fabrics...boring, I didn't take any pics of that.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step Three...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Cut your squares into 3.5 by 3.5 inches</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(I think I ended up with almost 170 squares)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b8aOWwgLhbY/Tt2ejHmUOaI/AAAAAAAAC7E/c1R54-t0p6A/s1600/Fall+and+Winter+2011+020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b8aOWwgLhbY/Tt2ejHmUOaI/AAAAAAAAC7E/c1R54-t0p6A/s400/Fall+and+Winter+2011+020.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step Four:</div><div align="center" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Lay out your top piece. Draw your grid of 4.5 by 4.5 squares.</div><div align="center" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">(bad pic...sorry)</div><div align="center" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1EfCzfCMsNg/Tt2fi6wcO4I/AAAAAAAAC7U/aB3ctR2ojwU/s1600/Fall+and+Winter+2011+023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1EfCzfCMsNg/Tt2fi6wcO4I/AAAAAAAAC7U/aB3ctR2ojwU/s400/Fall+and+Winter+2011+023.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step Five:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Take your fabric squares and center them in the squares you drew on your top piece. Use the fabric glue stick to help hold them in place (I just did a small X in each square). I wanted the quilt to be truly random so I did not follow a pattern. My only rule was that I didn't want two of the same side-by-side, although corners were fine.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

As you can tell there's not a whole lot of measuring but a whole lot of eyeballing it with the squares. I think it adds to the charm to have some of them a little crooked. But, if you're sewing according to your squares, your lines that show on the back are going to be pretty squiggly and I'm guessing you won't want that. <em>I didn't pin the quilt.</em> the flannel really grabs the batting pretty well. I also had enough extra on each side that I knew I could square it up if it shifted at all. <em>I sewed the shorter sides first to help keep everything in place when I started on the longer rows.</em> <em>I also turned the quilt half-way through</em> to help with the bulk that ended up shoved against the side of the machine.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Step Eight:</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Another step not worthy of a picture...trim down the sides as best as you can. I'm sure there are great ways to do this...I was too tired to care so I eyeballed it off the grid line.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Step Nine:</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">I had tons of my 3.5 squares left over when I most brilliantly, thought it would be cute to use the squares sewn together for my binding instead of a solid piece. I sewed them all together and then pressed the seams open. I then pressed it in half length-wise.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r2lvGPydC5I/Tt2jk4KvQ0I/AAAAAAAAC78/fiUiq4fUmJo/s1600/Fall+and+Winter+2011+040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r2lvGPydC5I/Tt2jk4KvQ0I/AAAAAAAAC78/fiUiq4fUmJo/s400/Fall+and+Winter+2011+040.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step Ten:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Bind the quilt. Here is where I really got into trouble. I'm not quilter. I searched a bunch of you tube videos for binding. I didn't want to spend the time hand binding so I chose to go with the machine binding...GASP...I know I just killed some of the die-hard quilters out there but hey, this was supposed to be a one night quilt remember! P.S. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GVA05MxXTU&feature=related" target="_blank">this was my favorite tutorial</a>. I also got sucked into watching about ten more of them...she seems like such a fun lady...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3ZpIg9iXcj0/Tt2kOiTPNfI/AAAAAAAAC8E/6P7MFY-Keis/s1600/Fall+and+Winter+2011+041.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3ZpIg9iXcj0/Tt2kOiTPNfI/AAAAAAAAC8E/6P7MFY-Keis/s400/Fall+and+Winter+2011+041.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step Eleven:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Wash the quilt. And then be prepared with some scissors to trim down all the threads. Now, I know it's meant to look a little rustic and I won't trim them down in the future. The first washing you're going to have more than any other time.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step Twelve:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Wipe the blood, sweat and tears away and be happy you're FINALLY finished! ha ha. I'm just kidding. I sure hope my parents like it. Here are a couple more pictures. I love how the back ended up with lots of cute squares.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--rvWQ5Elmgg/Tt2n59P-cJI/AAAAAAAAC8U/H4aJ-RlFqEc/s1600/Fall+and+Winter+2011+052.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--rvWQ5Elmgg/Tt2n59P-cJI/AAAAAAAAC8U/H4aJ-RlFqEc/s400/Fall+and+Winter+2011+052.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">After taking the finally picture I started working on this post. When I was finished I turned around to find my cat, Smudge, curled up on it. So cute! She's a feisty little thing. This is about as close as we can get to her. Makes my little "rag" quilt look like it should be in a country magazine don't you think?</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

This holiday season, while we are enjoying our families and thankful for our blessings, I wanted to help spread the word about a great organization that, <em><strong>all year round</strong></em>, helps lift the spirits of mothers giving up their children for adoption and in need of a pick-me-up. Gina is an amazing woman and I am so lucky to have the opportunity to get to know her. My oldest daughter is the same age as her "little butterfly" that she placed for adoption in 2000. I think back to that time in my life and can't comprehend the struggle she went through to make that decision. Please take a moment out of your busy schedules to check out <a href="http://www.birthmotherbaskets.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Birth Mother Baskets</a>. I know any donations would be greatly appreciated. I hope everyone enjoys a safe and happy Thanksgiving!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://s587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/?action=view&current=Untitled-1-12.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/Untitled-1-12.png" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

Can anyone else relate to that? lol. Anyway, a while ago I saw <a href="http://eighteen25.blogspot.com/2010/12/joy-frames.html" target="_blank">these adorable holiday frames</a> at eighteen25 and have never gotten around to making my version of them. All the supplies were on sale this week, and I knew I would have a little free time tonight (rare) so I decided to finally give them a try. I love, <em>love</em> the way they turned out. I think I'm going to make a few more for other holidays too. Just, FYI, I bought the frames at Dollar Tree and painted them black. My final cost, including the frames was only $6.00 plus tax (I had the paint and glitter already). Woot Woot! I love under $10.00 projects! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jY1mRrDEC8w/TsSsToG4RhI/AAAAAAAAC6M/N9G0oXp52tk/s1600/Fall+2011+061.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hda="true" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jY1mRrDEC8w/TsSsToG4RhI/AAAAAAAAC6M/N9G0oXp52tk/s400/Fall+2011+061.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br />

I FINALLY have my computer back and am ready to get back to blogging! Obviously I have been out of commission for many, many months. I apologize that it has taken so long but unfortunately, having a major over-haul on my computer really wasn't in the budget. I am so surprised to see how many people keep checking in or otherwise I might have quit it all together. I wish this "debut" post were more exciting but I'm still working on getting all of my pictures downloaded and organized. Therefore, here is a quick little blurb about an ongoing project I've been working on. It's no secret that I love a good bargain. The past two years of shopping with coupons has allowed me to stock my home with everything I use at unbelievable prices. So much so in fact, that I am kind-of morphing into more of a wholesale type shopper. I've been tracking all of the items I use in my home for about a year. I've also tracked at what price I've purchased the item. This ensures that in the future I really will only buy something at rock bottom prices. One thing I have grown to love is the bulk food section at WinCo. When I am planning my weekly shopping trips I like to compare the prices to WinCo and a couple other grocery stores. Unfortunately, WinCo will not give prices over the phone. IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!!! Because of this, they have lost some of my business because I'm not going to make the 25 minute drive if I am not 100% sure it's worth my time. I created this little spreadsheet to help me out. I went to the WinCo closest to me and wrote down all of the items I use (not everything, sorry). I don't know if their prices are the same everywhere, but I figured I would share my findings in case anyone would find this helpful. Email me at <a href="mailto:mapleandvine@hotmail.com">mapleandvine@hotmail.com</a> and I can email you the .pdf. I'm really glad I did this because Walgreen's has Clabber Girl baking powder on sale this week. Without a manufacturer's coupon, it would be better to purchase at WinCo. However, with the mq, I now know I definitely needt to get it at Walgreen's. Make sense? Anyway, like I said, not exciting but I love saving as many pennies as I can by shopping smart. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://s587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/?action=view&current=Untitled-1-12.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/Untitled-1-12.png" /></a></div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

I really have been super busy with so many cute things but my computer DIED and along with it went all of my pictures, music and every program I had installed. I am hoping the computer experts can get it back. Please cross your fingers for me. Anyway, I am not supposed to be blogging at work so this is super fast....I just wanted you to know what's going on. Although, if Stephanie would ever actually post on here too maybe there wouldn't be so much time between posts. I think I need to drive the two hours it takes to get to her house from mine and force her to show off all the cute things she does. Seriously, Stephanie, get with it girl! lol. She loves me :-)</div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">Hey there! This is just a little blurb about a fantastic little find I discovered over the weekend. My kiddos each have a Nintendo DS. I was planning on making them some sort of cute little case to put them in but it's really LOW on the priority list. As I was walking through Hobby Lobby I found, on clearance of course, the most adorable fabric cases. I was looking at what were labeled "sunglasses holder" and thought they would work perfectly for their DS's instead. Although, they really would be cute for sunglasses too! If you have a similar need and a Hobby Lobby nearby go check it out because they're a perfect fit!</div><br />

It was only $3.50 at Kohl's and I already had batting at home. I just unpicked the bottom seam (this had a fabric backing to it, very important as this project won't work on one layer placemats), shoved it full of the batting and did a quick running stitch to close it back up! I'd say the whole thing only took about 10 minutes.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">This little project and post leads me into my next subject because this was on my list of things to do. As a single mom who works full-time I have a lot to do. Maybe that's a silly thing to say because I don't know many people who <strong><em>don't</em></strong> have enough to do. The reason I mention it is because I have always loved crafting and making things. That said, sometimes I can't believe I make things even more hectic by adding so much more to my ever-changing list of things that need to get done. I think it's healthy to have hobbies. Unfortunately I don't know that I do <strong><em>anything</em></strong> as a hobby. It seems as though it's more of an obsession and once I get and idea in my head I can't get rid of it until it's done (dang it that I have responsibilities and need to sleep so it takes me forever to get things done at times). I've decided to post my list here on my little blog. I'm on here enough that it might be easier to manage rather than on the little scraps of paper I have shoved in my notebook of ideas. I don't want to have to search for this particular post each time so I'm going to add it to my sidebar. It is in no particular order, just as they happened to be arranged as I typed them. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://s587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/?action=view&current=Untitled-1-12.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/Untitled-1-12.png" /></a></div>Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02065042322720578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7138791106867760538.post-30515931930326983052011-04-12T19:02:00.001-06:002011-04-12T19:02:43.183-06:00Christmas Shopping? Oh Yes I Am!!!<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0tbXmjhVhJE/TaT11o9khhI/AAAAAAAAC38/tthmM7xfCKo/s1600/Pyrex+Measuring+Cup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" r6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0tbXmjhVhJE/TaT11o9khhI/AAAAAAAAC38/tthmM7xfCKo/s400/Pyrex+Measuring+Cup.jpg" width="390" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Hey everyone! Hip2Save had a great deal on Pyrex glassware posted on her website today. Click <a href="http://hip2save.com/2011/04/bon-ton-pyrex-measuring-cups-60-off-free-ship.html">HERE</a> to check out the details (60% off and free shipping!). As soon as I saw this I knew I had to act quickly. You see, earlier today I went on my weekly K-Mart shopping trip (for my previous thoughts on K-Mart click <a href="http://mapleandvine.blogspot.com/search/label/K-Mart">HERE</a>). Anyway, they had some great toys on clearance with an additional 50% off! I was able to snag some LIV dolls and accessories for my girls for their Easter baskets for an amazing price (I think they ended up being $6.00). I also purchased some odds and ends to have at home for when the kiddos are invited to birthday parties as well as some items for Christmas. Yes, Christmas. I have often been asked why I would do this considering that I don't know what my girls will ask for. That is true. However, I know my kids, I am their mom after all, so when I see something I know they will like I purchase it throughout the year. When the season finally arrives I let Santa take the credit for getting them the other items that were just what they wanted. It always seems to work out great and I've never had any problems with my system. Now, back to my point of this post. This shopping trip got me thinking about what I would give out to my co-workers this year. I had an idea to give some measuring cups filled with Hershey's Kisses and a tag that says <strong>'I hope your holiday season is filled with JOY beyond measure!'</strong> The only problem, I hate cheap measuring cups and the good ones can be quite pricey. That's why I was so happily surprised by this great deal on nice Pyrex measuring cups. Is it fate that this was the same day I had been thinking about these gifts? I think so! Anyway, I just saved oodles of money acting on this now. And, when it comes time to finally hand these little babies out I will be able to enjoy the season instead of stressing about what I'm going to give. Sounds good to me! Sorry, to my lovely friends who read this blog and will end up receiving these, I hope you'll forgive me!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

I'm not a die hard fan but every once in a while I enjoy watching it. A couple of seasons ago I was laughing at an episode where a new lady that had moved to "the lane" was making fun of Bree for making her own croutons. I thought, if she only knew how easy and scrumptious homemade croutons are she wouldn't be making fun of it! By making them yourself you can control the size and flavor. They don't take much more than 10 minutes to prep and I never use them all in one sitting (although my kids snack on them so they don't usually last more than one day). Are you ready for this simple idea?</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: center;"><br />

There were so many other items I wanted to buy that were out of stock. In fact, the last couple of trips I've made have been a little annoying. I don't understand why a store that is well aware of the amount of customers who use coupons doesn't order more of their products to sustain a sale. And, if you're not actually going to enforce a limit on the quantities, then why even waste the time to hang up the tags? That said, I acknowledge that this is all part of the game and also because I don't shop on Sunday's I don't get first dibs on all of the products. Alright, I'm off my soapbox. In the end, I am still saving massive amounts of money and I did purchase some higher priced items. I got all this for $8.80.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://s587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/?action=view&current=Untitled-1-12.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/Untitled-1-12.png" /></a></div>Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02065042322720578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7138791106867760538.post-68787057616590688832011-04-07T08:22:00.000-06:002011-04-07T08:22:06.727-06:00April Cards<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gwisvAwqO8k/TZ0byyfpxsI/AAAAAAAAC20/LqMqILsfJ0g/s1600/April+Cards+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" r6="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gwisvAwqO8k/TZ0byyfpxsI/AAAAAAAAC20/LqMqILsfJ0g/s400/April+Cards+003.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Hello! I finally found my camera's battery charger and I do have a few projects I've been working on. For now, I'll start with this fun idea. I have been wanting to make this little project for almost a year and kept putting it off. My jumbled mess of earrings finally dictated that I take a few minutes (this was an under 10 minute project) and get it done. It's going to be so nice to be able to quickly find that perfect pair to wear instead of digging through my jewelry box. I've seen similar ideas made with chicken coop wire or screens but I didn't want to have to mess with measuring and cutting sheets of wire mesh (although I do think they are just as cute!)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong>Step 1:</strong> Find a frame, any frame....as long as it is made out of wood! I happened to find this lovely picture at a garage sale last summer for $1.00 and knew it would work for the space I had. Mine was already painted but if you want it a different color then paint your frame now!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-exux9rnmT9E/TZvRj3_uqPI/AAAAAAAAC2E/Y723SN_sWZ0/s1600/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+057.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" r6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-exux9rnmT9E/TZvRj3_uqPI/AAAAAAAAC2E/Y723SN_sWZ0/s400/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+057.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong>Step 2:</strong> Gather your supplies. You will need your frame, picture hanging wire, staple gun w/ staples and wire cutters.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0IALp7GBGOg/TZvRz9R3IcI/AAAAAAAAC2I/Dnp9vT-gOck/s1600/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" r6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0IALp7GBGOg/TZvRz9R3IcI/AAAAAAAAC2I/Dnp9vT-gOck/s400/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+058.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong>Step 3:</strong> Remove the glass and cardboard (and lovely 90's style picture if yours came with one like mine) and turn over.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7DJJX7Dqh00/TZvSPEAyppI/AAAAAAAAC2Q/j1AerdRW_gY/s1600/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+060.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" r6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7DJJX7Dqh00/TZvSPEAyppI/AAAAAAAAC2Q/j1AerdRW_gY/s400/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+060.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong>Step 4:</strong> Figure out how far apart you want your wires to be. Start on one end and firmly staple in place. I did two staples just to be extra sure the wire would stay in place.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mfijGJRsC34/TZvSfktXOzI/AAAAAAAAC2U/KjHx_SE0fVQ/s1600/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+061.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" r6="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mfijGJRsC34/TZvSfktXOzI/AAAAAAAAC2U/KjHx_SE0fVQ/s400/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+061.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong>Step 5:</strong> String across the frame and staple on the other side. Cut the wire.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t-2GeZlMQfw/TZvSv5ORV2I/AAAAAAAAC2Y/vPbtfyU5js0/s1600/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" r6="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t-2GeZlMQfw/TZvSv5ORV2I/AAAAAAAAC2Y/vPbtfyU5js0/s400/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+062.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong>Step 6:</strong> Continue until all wires are in place.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gDRQtXmnL0Y/TZvTjyLRghI/AAAAAAAAC2g/7LtQlsfddEk/s1600/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+064.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" r6="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gDRQtXmnL0Y/TZvTjyLRghI/AAAAAAAAC2g/7LtQlsfddEk/s400/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+064.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong>Step 7:</strong> Hang on the wall.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gjZuU-5NnQQ/TZvT_wYCZGI/AAAAAAAAC2o/Ugx_pbZ7JFc/s1600/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+068.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" r6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gjZuU-5NnQQ/TZvT_wYCZGI/AAAAAAAAC2o/Ugx_pbZ7JFc/s400/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+068.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong>Step 8:</strong> Hang your lovely earrings on the wires and enjoy!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GmlwCWXkBng/TZvUOksgdRI/AAAAAAAAC2s/HCk8rMGSf8k/s1600/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+069.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" r6="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GmlwCWXkBng/TZvUOksgdRI/AAAAAAAAC2s/HCk8rMGSf8k/s400/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+069.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vAz6RBwMPgE/TZvUb3np7UI/AAAAAAAAC2w/hRz1kUR4r9g/s1600/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+071.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" r6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vAz6RBwMPgE/TZvUb3np7UI/AAAAAAAAC2w/hRz1kUR4r9g/s400/February+March+and+beginning+of+April+071.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Here are a few things to note if you want to take on this little project (nothing major, just a couple thoughts). I used a heavy gauge wire and I don't think it's necessary. In fact, I think it would be better to use a lighter gauge. I would not stretch the wires quite as tight across so you have a little more give when grabbing your earrings. Other then that I am in love with this under $5.00 masterpiece!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://s587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/?action=view&current=Untitled-1-12.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/Untitled-1-12.png" /></a></div>Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02065042322720578666noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7138791106867760538.post-72967943715023150462011-03-16T19:32:00.001-06:002011-03-16T19:34:43.843-06:00Hello!!! Is Anyone Out There?<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: center;">Hey there! This is just a quick little blurb to let you all know (if anyone IS still looking at this blog) that I haven't forgotten about it. Life has just kept me extremely busy for the last month or so. I've been doing a lot at work and have no energy for much else once I get home. My car kept breaking down on me so I finally bought a new one. My dryer broke and by the time I was able to have it fixed I had mounds of laundry to do. I've lost the battery charger for my camera and last, but not least, my mouse on the computer quits on me every other time I try to use it (I have to unplug and plug it back in multiple times to get it working again....not very fun). Oh, the joys of single parenthood. ;-) In spite of all this I have been trying to get a few things done around my place and I've also been asked when Craft Club is starting again. Soon....I promise! In the mean time, let me know what you think of the new font. I'm so happy blogger finally got some cute ones available to use! I hope everyone is healthy and happy! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://s587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/?action=view&current=Untitled-1-12.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/Untitled-1-12.png" /></a></div></div>Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02065042322720578666noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7138791106867760538.post-59852034542565183092011-02-05T21:24:00.001-07:002011-02-05T21:28:34.561-07:00K-Mart Shopping<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TU4iN8nSVKI/AAAAAAAAC18/g7kkyTEAHLo/s1600/Kmart+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TU4iN8nSVKI/AAAAAAAAC18/g7kkyTEAHLo/s400/Kmart+002.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: center;">I'm not a huge fan of Walmart. Actually, that's putting it lightly. I detest Walmart. I literally feel myself get angry for no reason when I walk in the door. Especially now that coupon shopping is my way of life. Sometimes I look at the prices and think to myself, "Do people really think these are good prices?" Unfortunately, there are times when I really do need to go in and grab some things. I know I am not in the "norm" when it comes to this but I much prefer K-Mart to Walmart and fortunately for me, K-Mart is closer to me anyway. When I am in the need of some discount items for my home that is usually where I end up. The store I shop at is very clean and organized but I admit their prices are slightly higher than Walmart. I get around this by waiting for the items to go on sale and then they are usually cheaper. Anyway, the point of this post is that they now offer a great rewards program which has sealed the deal in choosing K-Mart over the other. It is a program where you sign up with your personal information and get a card...just like at some grocery stores. Every time you shop, you need to swipe your card so you earn points for everything you purchase. These points add up and can be redeemed like cash. Also, they periodically have double coupon sales in certain departments. I didn't realize until yesterday that they were having one of those sales this week. They will double coupons up to $2.00!!!! That is a HUGE deal in couponing! You can only use 5 coupons per day so I was sad that I only discovered this was going on today or I would have made a few trips this week. After I combined their store sales with my double coupons I got all of this for only $12.36. I also redeemed my points that were on my rewards card and what do you know? I had $5.00 worth of points so my total only came to $7.36. I was listening to an employee tell another customer that she saved all of her points until Christmas last year and had $200.00 in points that she was able to use for gifts. And I'm sorry, the same toys are sold at K-Mart as anywhere else so why not get them for absolutely free? I think that is a great idea and I'm going to save mine for the end of the year as well. And, even better, you also get points for shopping at Sears. If you want to check out their program click <a href="http://www.shopyourwayrewards.com/">HERE</a>!</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://s587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/?action=view&current=Untitled-1-12.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss314/STuckinVernal/Untitled-1-12.png" /></a></div>Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02065042322720578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7138791106867760538.post-61469735767262693242011-02-01T11:50:00.000-07:002011-02-01T11:50:31.586-07:00February Cards<div style="text-align: center;"><br />

I can't promise that I won't miss some Tuesdays (in fact I most likely will miss more than a few) but hopefully I'll be able to tempt you all with some of my favorite recipes. If you try them I would really love to hear back from you. Are you ready? Alright the very first Temptation Tuesday is featuring.....drumroll please.....</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Chicken Enchiladas!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4wIQmvVHI/AAAAAAAACzg/ySO6IhzTlG8/s1600/Walgreens+017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4wIQmvVHI/AAAAAAAACzg/ySO6IhzTlG8/s400/Walgreens+017.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I hope that's not a let down, put I promise this recipe is like no other I have ever tried. It has a very smoky flavor and it's made with a very special ingredient you probably wouldn't associate with mexican food. Here's how you make them!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Cook and then shred 2 cups of chicken. The seasoning doesn't come from the chicken so I just boil mine....nothing fancy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4w3BjH2JI/AAAAAAAACzk/hZM4Op7jJTo/s1600/Walgreens+007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4w3BjH2JI/AAAAAAAACzk/hZM4Op7jJTo/s400/Walgreens+007.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">While the chicken is cooking I use the microwave to make the rice. Here's the secret. You don't use any old rice, you will need to use Zatarain's Black Beans and Rice. This is where all the flavor for this lovely dish comes and it is absolutely delicious! If you've never seen it before it will be with all the other brands of boxed rice. This is what the box looks like (minus the date of my purchase obviously):</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4xg11PxGI/AAAAAAAACzo/Z9JKJRl8J-A/s1600/Walgreens+004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" n4="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4xg11PxGI/AAAAAAAACzo/Z9JKJRl8J-A/s400/Walgreens+004.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">and what it looks like after cooked:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4yJcUXT0I/AAAAAAAACzs/D4CjnYyciOU/s1600/Walgreens+009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4yJcUXT0I/AAAAAAAACzs/D4CjnYyciOU/s400/Walgreens+009.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">While your chicken and rice are cooking shred 2 cups of cheddar cheese, and mix together 1 can of Cream of Mushroom soup and 8 oz of sour cream.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4yhtPK2AI/AAAAAAAACzw/aPPNujO4Mjk/s1600/Walgreens+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4yhtPK2AI/AAAAAAAACzw/aPPNujO4Mjk/s400/Walgreens+003.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then spread a dollop of the mixture on 8 tortillas. I never measure, just a light layer on each:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4y_iZDkkI/AAAAAAAACz0/lUovLzA_P4s/s1600/Walgreens+005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4y_iZDkkI/AAAAAAAACz0/lUovLzA_P4s/s400/Walgreens+005.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4zSMRUC-I/AAAAAAAACz4/lcbR-XjCOIQ/s1600/Walgreens+006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4zSMRUC-I/AAAAAAAACz4/lcbR-XjCOIQ/s400/Walgreens+006.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">When the rice is ready, add a large, heaping spoonful to each tortilla. Then add all of the chicken and then your desired amount of cheddar cheese. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4ztn0HP4I/AAAAAAAACz8/O4FyRwGmuP4/s1600/Walgreens+012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4ztn0HP4I/AAAAAAAACz8/O4FyRwGmuP4/s400/Walgreens+012.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4z-4EwS4I/AAAAAAAAC0A/7c2-HsAFlWw/s1600/Walgreens+013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS4z-4EwS4I/AAAAAAAAC0A/7c2-HsAFlWw/s400/Walgreens+013.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Roll up and put in your pan:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS40sXWQNgI/AAAAAAAAC0E/hy8olhr3I4E/s1600/Walgreens+014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS40sXWQNgI/AAAAAAAAC0E/hy8olhr3I4E/s400/Walgreens+014.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Spread the remaining soup/sour cream mixture over the enchiladas. Make sure to cover the edges with sauce or they will get hard and crunchy while baking. Then sprinkle any remaining rice and cheese over the top.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS41P5gsJRI/AAAAAAAAC0I/mLW_6yqQBHw/s1600/Walgreens+015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS41P5gsJRI/AAAAAAAAC0I/mLW_6yqQBHw/s400/Walgreens+015.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Enjoy!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS41fWD6LaI/AAAAAAAAC0M/Z5hI-akDbMg/s1600/Walgreens+016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_zuLAa2PolYk/TS41fWD6LaI/AAAAAAAAC0M/Z5hI-akDbMg/s400/Walgreens+016.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
